I have hypertension -- should I avoid exercise?

An estimated 50 million people in the U.S. have or are being treated for hypertension. Treatment may involve medication use and always involves a recommendation for a change in lifestyle.

If you speak with your doctor about exercise you will most certainly be encouraged to begin an exercise program. A regular increase in your daily activity will lead to weight reduction when coupled with good nutrition. Many people eventually are able to reduce or even eliminate their need for antihypertensive medication after establishing a regular exercise routine.
